Hose?!?!?!

On the way into work today I looked down on my pasty white legs and wondered:

1. Why do we call those things that are worn on our legs hose? A hose waters the garden and cleans the car. It took me a moment to think of another word for this uncomfortable accessory - stockings. So is it hose or stockings (or something else) to you?

2. Do any of you even still wear hose?

3. Do any of you remember hose before panty hose? The garter thingy. And I've seen in magazines that the garter made a comeback. Why? Other than panty liner menstrual pads, panty hose was the best invention. Why would one want to sit on a garter strap all day?

- - - - How can it be 80 in Ohio today but snow flurries are forcasted for Wednesday (tomorrow)?

I just call them nylons. It's easier. :-)

I rarely wear dresses that aren't casual summery dresses, thus I rarely wear nylons.

I do wear them for very formal ocassions. With open toed shoes being so popular, it's often too odd to wear them with many things.

I used to like the thigh highs until I got fat. Maybe I'll try them again when I'm 20 lbs lighter.

I call them hose and I don't wear them. I can't remember the last time I put any on--they were black, though, when I did. I don't like the "nude" shades at all.

I remember back in college the white hose thing was very popular. I had umpteen pair to wear with my sorority girl dresses and bows. I was such a fashion plate.

I was born in the pantyhose era. I did try to wear thigh highs and a garter once, in college, and it did not go well. At all.

I call them nylons and I wear them all the time except in the summer.

I think I once wore a garter with stockings. Way back in my younger and thinner days.

I vaguely remember wearing a garter belt and stockings, which my mom bought for me. They were freakishly uncomfortable, and since I'm tall and nobody had decent tall sizes back then the actual stockings came to just over my knee.

TG pantihose were invented right then. (Did pantihose reach Canada later than they did the US? Don't know - so many things did.) Anyway, that was another problem because then the damn crotch of the pantihose kept slipping down to mid-thigh on me - freakishly uncomfortable!

I hate pantihose, nylons, whatever you want to call them and only wear them to major, special events where Tom's work people will be judging me. Otherwise, forget it! (And they do make pantihose in all sizes and tall sizes now - TG)

Believe the weather man. We had a day of 81' followed by snow. I love spring.

I call them nylons. I wear them with dresses and even wear knee highs with pants. I can't stand bare feet in shoes. I really don't like the look of bare legs, but I know it's the style right now. There are toe-less nylons for wearing with open-toed shoes. Who remembers a seam down the back of their mom's or grandma's "hose?"

Kim - I've not tried the thigh highs. I have very thin legs (all my weight is in my midsection) and I've always been afraid they would fall down.

Kimmah - the last dozen or so times I've worn hose were also black - in the winter with a skirt.

Swami - LOL. I feel ya. My panty hose always drooped in the crotch. I have freakishly long legs also.

Puffy - bear legs are great when they have a little color to them. Mine were sooooo white. I think the seam is sexy. I try not to be sexy most of the time. Sexy to me has always equaled stupid.
